The geopolitical divergences existing between China and Tibet bear great resemblance to several other conflicts scattered around the world, the territorial issue.
China's main interest in Tibetan territory is due to its strategic geographic location, as the province is located in the Asian continent, in the south and in the center of Asia, which facilitates the control of the region by the from China. This geographic configuration allows for better control by the Chinese government, given this fact the Chinese leaders have no intention of granting full political independence to Tibet.
The proof of the dissatisfaction with the Tibetan independence process was the attitude of the Chinese government that repressed, with the use of force, the demonstrations that took place in the capital of Tibet, Lhasa.
According to the spokesman for the Foreign Minister, Liu Jianchao, China will effectively fight to maintain its control in the region. The territory in which Tibet is located is located in a region that is located at 4,500 meters above sea level, due to these characteristics it is called the “roof of the world”, name given by the fact that it is the highest point on the planet, more precisely because it houses Mount Everest in this region, with 8,850 meters of height.
Chinese interest in Tibetan territory is not only linked to the strategic location of the region, but also to its natural resources, such as, for example, the large preserved areas composed of huge forests, considered a great bioenergy potential, not to mention the important deposits of minerals present in the territory of Tibet, such as chromium, copper, borax, uranium, lithium, iron, cobalt and many others.
Another determining factor is linked to water resources, since the sources of important Asian rivers, such as the Yang-tse-Kiang (Blue River), Hoangho (Yellow River), Mekong, Indus, among others, are born in Tibetan territory, springs that account for approximately 30% of the water sources in the China.
