According to Karin Conde-Knape, senior vice president of the Center for New Drug Discovery at Norwegian drugmaker Novo Nordisk, drugs Ozempic and Wegovy cause weight gain after the end of treatment.
The revelation was made in an interview that the executive gave during the Healthy Returns event Summit, from the North American network CNBC, explaining the circumstances in which the lost kilos can to go back.

“As long as you maintain a balanced diet and practice physical activities, you will be able to control your weight. But if you break out of that, you'll start gaining weight again," Karin said.
Still according to the Novo Nordisk employee, the possible return of lost kilos occurs differently in each organism. However, about 50% of people start to gain weight between 2 and 3 years after the end of treatment.
But why does this happen?
In addition to warning about the possible “side effects” of using the Ozempic and Wegovy, Karin Conde-Knape explained what causes these reactions.
According to the executive, the drugs control the production of the hormone GLP-1, which is produced in the intestine. and is responsible for sending the information to the brain that the individual is already quenched after eating.
In this way, the use of Ozempic and Wegovy literally makes people feel full, thus inhibiting overconsumption of food.
However, still according to Conde-Knape, after discontinuing treatment, this inhibition of uncontrolled appetite is removed, which leaves the intestine free to “ask for food”.
For this reason, Karin warns that even after the end of treatment, people should follow the regular diet of yesteryear, combining this with the practice of daily physical activities. Otherwise, bad habits will cause the lost kilos to return.
Ozempic and Wegovy: Hollywood stars
Recently, Ozempic and Wegovy gained the spotlight in the United States, after the release of a study that points out that drugs can decrease up to 15% of a person's body weight within a few weeks.
The news quickly spread across the country, giving the two drugs the reputation of "miracle substances".
Even rumors claim that billionaire Ellon Musk, owner of Tesla, SpaceX and the twitter, as well as some Hollywood stars, were making use of Ozempic and Wegovy injections for weight loss.
To give you an idea, the sudden fame was such that it even caused a shortage of drugs on the shelves of North American pharmacies, which forced Novo Nordisk to increase production.
However, Karin Conde-Knape's statements came to curb the initial euphoria a little and alert people about the real functioning of drugs and the consequences of their use.
Going in that direction, the executive also stated that the prolonged use of the drugs can, apparently, guarantee the stabilization of the weight, although it is not known if it is safe to make this prolonged use.
"We still need to test the effects of a longer duration of treatment in order to understand how users' bodies behave," warned Karin Conde-Knape.
