From School to Sheriff's Office
Investigators reported that she entered the campus during the night and left the gun in the staff bathroom. After the discovery, they took the case to the authorities and handed the gun over to the sheriff. Investigators have no reason to believe that Johnson had any intention of causing harm and assume that she simply left her purse in the bathroom. Either way, she was fired from her job and arrested for carrying a gun inside a student safe zone.
Guns in Student Environments: An Old US Problem
Although it seems like an unusual case for most people, it is a frighteningly common reality in the US. A 4-year-old boy recently brought a loaded gun to his south Texas elementary school. and her father was arrested after the incident triggered a lockdown at the school, according to the authorities.
There were 229 gun-related incidents, including nine active shooter incidents, in US schools in 2021. The violence killed 39 people in school safety zones. Guns are the leading cause of death among American children and teens, 1 in 10 people who die from guns are age 19 or younger.
There are an estimated 4.6 million American children living in homes where at least one gun is kept loaded and unlocked, contributing to school shootings, suicides, and the death of family members, including infants and children small.
