This plant belongs to the palm tree family: plants with characteristic feather- or fan-shaped leaves, with around 2,500 types, the main ones being babassu, carnauba and coconut trees.

Thus, the coconut tree can be classified as the coconut palm and it is still divided into two types that can be differentiated by height: the dwarf coconut tree and the tall one.

Here in Brazil, the tall coconut tree is the most common and is part of the coastal vegetation. It can reach 25 meters in height and the dwarf only reaches up to 5 meters, but it is not so common to find.

As the fruits grow at the top, it may not be a good option to choose the top if you want to harvest them easily.

How to make

The first and most important step is to soften the coconut shell. To do this, just put a fresh coconut submerged in water, it can be inside a bucket.

You can also place it inside a bag with water and close it. For both cases you need to leave it in a warm and dark environment for about 3 to 4 days.

After that time, you must remove the coconut from the water and wrap its roots in a bag – it can also be the whole coconut – and leave it in the same environment as before. When the roots reach 20 cm more or less you can plant the coconut.

It is possible to plant in a vase or directly in the soil, for this choose a well-lit environment and that the plant spends most of the day receiving light.

The soil must be well drained, so prefer a sandy one and make an elevation if you decide to plant it directly on the ground, this will contribute to the drainage of the seedling.

After worrying about these requirements, it's time to put the seedling in the ground. To do this, make a hole, which does not need to be very deep, just hold the roots and leave the sprout underground.

It is necessary to water every week, so it is worth collecting rainwater for this. That way, you'll end up saving at the end of the month.
