According to the Agência Brasil website, four students from Colégio Estadual Marechal Zenóbio da Costa, in Nilópolis, Rio de Janeiro, will participate in the International Mathematical Olympiad, which will take place in New York, in the United States, on July 8th.
To participate in the Olympics, the four had to compete with more than 200 students across the country. However, they were very well prepared, and the school they attend already has a record of high performance in the Olympics.

Low-income youth pursue the dream of winning the gold medal
According to Professor Fernando Rocha, director of the Inverted Classroom project, the idea is to transform young people from poor families into specialists in Mathematics.
Thus, through this project, there are openings of doors and other possibilities for students who might not reach them in any other way.
The model of Flipped classroom, which has been in existence since 2018, tries to enhance the teaching and learning of some students who cannot adapt to the traditional style of schools.
In this way, there is an inversion of the traditional model: the classes are expository, and the student must study the topics before classes, so that, during the course time, there are discussions and activities creative.

Also according to the information, this model of Inverted Classroom allowed students to learn the disciplines of the International Mathematical Olympiad through challenges.
Thus, they undergo challenge resolution training, improving their skills and, mainly, logical reasoning. During the pre-Olympics phase, they are preparing with the support of teachers and technical staff.
One of the selected teenagers, Gabriela Tavares, 15 years old, guarantees that she is looking forward to participating. She had never imagined participating in the Olympics, but she and her colleagues want to bring the gold medal to our country.
