The maternal-infant phase can be considered one of the most difficult when raising a baby. Several allergies can arise and the problems get even bigger, as the child is not yet able to tell what they feel. Recently, a study claimed that feeding 4- to 6-month-old infants small amounts of peanut butter could decrease allergy by 77%.

The affirmative is controversial, since health authorities prohibit any type of food up to six months of age. That is, in that case, peanut butter could not be offered. In the same line of reasoning, there are studies that prove chopped or whole peanuts can cause asphyxiation in children under 5 years old.

The NHS, a body of the public health service in the United Kingdom, has indicated that peanut butter, ground or crushed, can be added to the diet of children under 6 months of age. However, solid foods should only be offered to babies who can sit up unaided to avoid the risk of choking while feeding.

Motor coordination, a firm head, being able to pick up some things with the hands and take them to the mouth are developments that the baby needs to present before ingesting solid foods.

Peanut butter can fight allergies in children

A recent study carried out in the United Kingdom states that the introduction of peanuts in infant feeding during stage of development of the immune system may decrease the child's chances of developing allergic reactions. The base of the study is in Israel, where people are used to eating peanut snacks during the initial phase of life, and allergies are less common in the country.

Like this study, others have appeared on the introduction of foods that can cause allergies in early childhood. Egg, wheat and milk, for example, may also be able to reduce allergy if introduced into the baby's diet properly.

This is how the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology decided to calculate the right time to introduce peanuts into the baby's diet. NHS, UK, along with the University of Southampton also participated in the process.

The best period to introduce peanuts into the diet is 4 to 6 months, with the possibility of reducing allergies by 77%. To develop the complete study and gain the trust of parents, Graham Roberts, stated that the benefits would be for future generations and less allergic results in the world.
