Popcorn in the microwave
An interesting curiosity in the history of the microwave oven is that it was invented mainly to pop popcorn kernels. During experiments with a magnetron - the device responsible for generating microwaves -, Dr. Percy Spencer, one of the scientists responsible for the study, placed some grains near the device and discovered that this way it was possible to burst the grains in the microwave. Thus, in 1997, this scientist signed a document that guaranteed him the title of invention for using the microwave to cook grain. After all, it's no wonder that most microwave ovens have a specific popcorn button.
As mentioned earlier, microwave popcorn kernels are not the best option to consume due to the large amount of additives. However, they are similar to normal grains. Therefore, instead of using these artificially flavored kernels, you can choose to use regular popcorn kernels.
If you put a glass bowl with some regular grains and add a small amount of water in the microwave, the grain will be heated, the water will expand and thus the starch will be pushed out, until the grain finally bursts, forming our dear popcorn.
This alternative, in addition to being a great option to replace artificial popcorn, is also ideal for replacing stovetop popcorn, which takes a large amount of oil to make.
