Understand what is Application CPI
Installed in March 2021, the main objective of this specific CPI is to analyze the contracts of companies that operate in the private transport of paid passengers in the city of São Paulo, as well as the proper collection of taxes for the municipality and the evaluation of the working conditions of the workers.
The case of iFood and the CPI of Applications
The councilors' visit to the iFood headquarters is part of a new episode of the platform's controversy. Agência Pública reported that iFood had hired two digital marketing agencies to manage fake social media accounts. The campaign's aim was to delegitimize unions and manipulate public debates about union strikes.
In response to the case, iFood invited the Commission to inspect the company's facilities. In a statement, the Chamber stated that the councilors met with company representatives to find out more about the operation and obtain information. Political agents also went to two addresses in the capital that were being appointed as logistics operators.
According to the CPI report, in the two districts of São Paulo, Vila Saúde and Brooklin, the members of the Commission sought how companies operate in order to assess the working conditions of couriers partners.
Conar also investigates iFood
On the other hand, the Applications CPI is not the only one to keep an eye on the situation with iFood. In a press release, the National Advertising Self-Regulation Council (Conar) said it had opened an investigation into the allegations surrounding the campaign.
