The National Exam for Revalidation of Medical Diplomas Issued by a Foreign Higher Education Institution (known as Revalida) is a exam applied by the Ministry of Education (MEC) and by the National Institute of Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira (INEP) which has with the aim of evaluating the knowledge and skills of physicians trained in foreign institutions, who wish to practice their profession in the Brazil.

Theoretical test and practical test to revalidate a medical degree
The first stage is an objective test, which assesses knowledge in areas such as internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, gynecology and obstetrics, among others. The second stage is a practical test, which assesses the clinical and practical skills of the candidate physician, performed at a teaching hospital accredited by the MEC.
In this edition, theBrazilians are the majority, with 7,295 applicants, representing 72.6% of the candidates. Then come the Cubans, with 1,347 (13.4%) enrolled and the Bolivians, with 694 (6.9%). The list of five nationalities is complete with the highest participation, Paraguayans, with 159 doctors (1.5%) and Venezuelans, with 122 (1.2%).
no longerO With regard to the countries with the highest training of professionals, the predominance is institutions from Bolivia (4,145), followed by Paraguay (3,024), Cuba (1,559), Argentina (682) and Venezuela (213). In total, at least 49 countries of origin of the diplomas were registered.
Revalida is mandatory for foreign physicians who wish to work in Brazil. In addition, passing the exam does not automatically guarantee the validation of the diploma, which still needs to be approved by the MEC. This process of revalidation of medical degrees is a complex matter and requires strict criteria to guarantee the quality and safety of medical care for Brazilian patients, combating issues such as medical malpractice, for example.
