Rio Grande do Sul: The absence of Burger King in some malls has reason

The beginning of 2023 started with Burger King announcing that it will close units in malls for Brazil. In January, the company communicated that three units located in Porto Alegre would be closed, as stated by the Gaúcha ZH media. This is a position that may be influenced by Americanas. The justification for the closure of activities is the fact that none of the stores are currently profitable. Learn more about it.

The Rio Grande do Sul market currently has 16 stores fast food, which still means a good move for the local market. This is a convincing answer as long as you don't evaluate who is in charge of the company at the moment.

The fast food partners are Marcel Herrmann Telles, Jorge Paulo Lemann and Carlos Alberto Sicupira, both shareholders of Americanas. Recently, a BRL 40 billion shortfall in the company was discovered. Coincidence or not, Burger King partners may be in a very delicate moment right now. Both shareholders are also representatives of Ambev and Heinz.

Burger King closes stores in RS

The first unit to close was the store located in Moinhos Shopping, on January 15th. Days later, the Borbon Shopping Country and Shopping Rua da Praia units were also closed. In Rua da Praia there were also kiosks that sold the brand's desserts, which were also closed.

In a statement presented to Column Giane Guerra do Gaúcha ZH, Burger King commented on the end of the stores:

“We inform you that the Company follows a national expansion plan, mapping opportunities and constantly evaluating its portfolio and asset profitability. The state of Rio Grande do Sul continues to be a very important market for the Company. However, the commercial conditions of the aforementioned points no longer made profitable operations possible, which led to this decision being taken on the assets in question”, said the company.
