Understand what Google Play Protect is
Google Play Protect is a free service designed to keep your private data and apps safe. Its performance is similar to that of an antivirus: it automatically checks the Play Store application before download, looking for harmful programs that may compromise the protection and performance of your devices. In addition, the new feature also performs periodic scans to detect external threats such as malicious third-party URLs.
Benefits of Google's New Advanced Protection Program
In addition to scanning and checking the health of your Android device, Google Play Protect is able to disable and remove harmful apps as soon as it identifies something suspicious. The new feature sends privacy alerts about apps that may gain access to your personal information.
How to activate Google Play Protect?
Any Android that comes with the Play Store installed in factory settings should automatically have Play Protect enabled by default. If this is not your case or if you want to make sure that this feature is enabled, just follow the steps below:
- Open the Play Store app and click on your profile icon;
- Go to Play Protect and click on the gear in the upper right of the screen;
- Make sure "Scan apps with Play Protect" and "Improve detection of harmful apps" are turned on. If not, just pull to the right.
