There are armies of trainers behind artificial intelligence

It's no secret that the new conversational artificial intelligences like ChatGPT are trained by humans.

However, a report released recently by NBC News, made a point of highlighting the work of these coaches, which is often neglected by the market.

The report contains testimonials from professionals such as programmer Alexej Savreaux, 34, who currently resides in Kansas, United States.

In his reports, the man claims that he has worked for several Artificial Intelligence companies, such as OpenAI, which conceived ChatGPT. According to Alexej, his role was precisely to program the AI systems so that they could deduce data and give “humanized” responses to users.

Savreuax, who was once a cook and a garbage hauler, said that despite being “invisible” the work of AI trainers is essential. “We are somewhat undervalued workers, but extremely necessary,” he said.

Still according to the programmer, no matter what adjustments are made to the machines, if there are no professionals like him working on the AIs, they simply won't work properly.

“You can design all the neural networks you want [in artificial intelligences], it can involve all the programming you need, but without trainers you don't have ChatGPT. You have nothing!” he stated.

Alexej Savreaux also complained about the salary received for teaching artificial intelligence. According to him, the amount paid by OpenAI was US$ 15 per hour.

To give you an idea, the current “minimum wage” paid in the United States is US$ 33.20 per hour, according to information from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That's more than double what Savreaux is said to have received.

With the growing demand for Artificial Intelligence trainers, more regulations for this profession should emerge in the coming years, so that professionals can have their labor rights insured.
