Injustice: Gods Among Us and Injustice 2

Based on DC Comics' iconic Injustice comic book series, this title(s) has players building their roster of superheroes and villains to take on others in online battles 3v3. Thanks to its RPG system, you have full control over your characters' movesets, customizable gear and clothing, and a level up feature.

The graphics hold up very well and it comes bundled with a story mode that follows an alternate timeline where Superman turns into a mad tyrant. Its sequel, Injustice 2 takes the story further and features a Raid mode where players can team up with friends to defeat bosses.

Mortal Kombat

The most brutal fighting game of them all, Mortal Kombat offers some really impressive graphics that complement its trademark “Fatalities”. It's visceral, it doesn't back down, and it presents horror of blood and the body in all its glory.

Gameplay here is similar to the Injustice games, where you collect and build your roster of over 130 iconic characters like Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Johnny Cage and more to fight in 3v3 matches. It also features weekly challenges, which upon completion grant new fighters. The game is tailored for players aged 17 and over and does not have an offline story mode.

For those of you who don't own a Nintendo Switch, Brawlhalla is a great replacement for Super Smash Bros. In this 2D platformer, the objective is to get opponents out of the battleground by any means, using a wide range of characters. A single match can contain up to 8 players locally or online and comes with cross-play support for PC, current and next-gen consoles, Nintendo Switch and mobile devices.
