On the morning of this Thursday, May 11, President Luís Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) signed the decree that regulates the Law Paulo Gustavo, Complementary Law No. 195 of 2022. The text was approved by Congress in March 2022, when funds were allocated for urgent measures in the cultural sector in all regions of the country. At the time, Brazil was still facing more pressing issues related to Covid-19 pandemic. However, the document was only sanctioned today.
Through this action, the Federal Executive will provide an amount of R$ 3.8 billion, from the surplus financial support from the Audiovisual Sectorial Fund (FSA) and other sources of income linked to the National Culture (NCF). The launching ceremony of the law that immortalizes the actor took place in Salvador, at the Conca Acústica at Teatro Castro Alves. Authorities were present, such as the Minister of Culture, Margareth Menezes.

The law was made in honor of Brazilian actor and comedian Paulo Gustavo, who died of health complications caused by Covid-19 in May 2021. The implementation event had the participation of the local public, through the presentation of shows and other cultural representations.
Next Friday, the 12th, and Saturday, the 13th, there will be a meeting at the Federal University of Bahia (UFB) of the Ministry of Culture with the listeners. The main objective is to offer training to public managers of culture and the population in general to expand the Law Paulo Gustavo.
The meeting will be marked by the approach on the functioning and instruments necessary for the application of the new law. The discussion tables will take place in person, with live transmission through the Ministry of Culture channel on YouTube.
Resources destined for culture will be transferred through these modalities: public selection, public notices, public calls, awarding of prizes and others. Audiovisual will receive R$ 2.7 billion and the other cultural and artistic areas will receive R$ 1.95 billion, with R$ 447.5 million for the renovation of movie theaters throughout Brazil.
