Research points out that Brazil may have a blackout of teachers in 20 years

According to a survey carried out by the Semesp Institute, Brazil must face a crisis in its educational system within 20 years. The situation is worrisome and should start to be taken seriously by federal agencies, since the lack of interest in teaching areas is decreasing more and more.

Part of the reasons for the deficit in the category is the aging of the faculty and the abandonment of the profession, that the way things are already, it is likely that basic education schools will miss about 235 thousand teachers. Imagine that in just over 15 years, children and adolescents will face a “teacher blackout” crisis.

Part of this problem is primarily attributed to young people's lack of interest in working as primary education educators, since from 2010 to 2020, the participation of students up to 29 years old as freshmen in undergraduate courses dropped by almost 10%. Something extremely worrying, because without new teachers, schools will not be able to renew their faculty soon.

In addition to the lack of interest, there is the aging of teachers already working, as the number of professionals over 50 years of age who tend to retire soon grows every year. Most of these teachers already exercised the function of teaching without a diploma.

Another problem in question is the lack of appreciation of the category. Low wages and the crisis due to delays in payments pushed many professionals away from schools, as they were offered no other option for living. Low pay is one of the most crucial points to drive away new undergraduate students, given the condition of difficulty completing full-time training, which is not accessible to everyone, and after graduation, the job scenario is not available either. it's ideal.

With the advancement of distance learning in colleges, in the EAD modalities, which has been increasing since 2016, part of the students end up choosing to drop out of courses, which ends up making it even more difficult to train new professionals.

According to data from Inep, the areas that showed the greatest drop in graduation completion between the years 2016 and 2020 were: biology, chemistry, social sciences, letters, history and geography.

In the area of pedagogy, there was an increase of 9.8%, since compulsory early childhood education from the age of 4 was applied, which expanded the job market.

It is a time for everyone to pay attention to schools, and it is important that education is propagated with greater care. If this deficit mark happens within 20 years, the entire educational system will present a crisis that will take years to recover again.
