Today's millennials are constantly changing jobs, relationships and rented residences, which that differentiates them from the more common perception of the midlife crisis, which begins at age 40 and ends at 60.

Upon reaching the age of 40, people used to wake up and find that everything that had been material in their life had been acquired. They had the kids, the house, and the steady income. However, millennials don't have the same experience. They don't buy a sports car to splurge on, or get divorced because they aren't married, or wait longer to find "the special someone." They are more concerned about the rising cost of living and reducing carbon emissions.

So millennials crave the security that midlife provides. They want financial and personal stability, something that is very different from the traditional perception of the midlife crisis.

Since graduating from high school, older millennials have experienced a series of economic, political and environmental crises. This has included recessions, weather disasters, housing booms and the Covid pandemic.

They have accepted that they have no external control over the crises happening in the world. Therefore, they seek the stability that the previous midlife crisis sought to avoid. It's no surprise that millennials are looking for security and stability, as they've had to face so many crises during their lives.
