Although it is a generation native to the digital world and capable of mastering all gadgets, young people are stunned by situations that generate the so-called “technological shame” at work. The information was released by a survey by HP, made with 10,000 employees from offices around the world.
A 'tech shame' haunts Gen Z at work
It happens when digital media leave us “in the lurch” in everyday situations. For example: when Zoom is slow in a meeting, when your cell phone freezes or even when the printer does not want to obey your commands.
According to HP UK HR Manager Debbie Irish, this type of situation puts Gen Z under pressure. As a result, these young adults feel less confident in carrying out their day-to-day work.
It turns out that, according to Irish, many of them are entering the market for the first time and in completely virtual environments. As such, they have less face-to-face work time than any other generation. This includes limited and very restricted access to your managers.
This lack of intimacy with peers causes shyness. When Zoom crashes, for example, they feel that they lack competence and tend to become more introspective.
It helps me?
The pressure that technology causes on Generation Z is also enhanced when young people realize that they help older co-workers with their digital kinks. The phrase that sticks in their minds is the following: “if I can't get this Zoom for myself, how will my co-worker have the confidence to ask me for help again?”.
Also, there's the fact that they have to deal with older technology in some locations. Not every Gen Z person knows what a fax is, for example. Some people even touched a landline! It is complicated.
