Those who are from the old days remember that the Google Photos was unlimited, but it's been less than a year since that changed. In the middle of 2021, the company changed its strategy and took away the possibility of being able to back up as many photos as you wanted, but with reduced quality. Now, this offer will return as it was before, however, only customers of an operator will be able to enjoy this benefit. Check out all about this news!

Customers of the operator T-Mobile, in the US, will be able to subscribe to a plan that guarantees unlimited storage for photos and videos with original quality. This package will cost around $15 per month and also includes 2TB of cloud storage. Additionally, this space can be stipulated separately for $10 per month or $100 per year. So, it's fair to say that infinite backup costs about $5 more per month.
Also, the package offers advanced editing tools in Google Photos, guarantees access to Google One VPN for Android and iOS, and extended trial periods for YouTube Premium and Stadia. However, for now, unlimited backup is not yet offered on carriers other than T-Mobile, nor in markets other than the United States. Soon, in Brazil, Google One has plans from 100 GB to 2 TB.
- 100 GB: BRL 6.99 monthly or BRL 69.99 annually;
- 200 GB: BRL 9.99 monthly or BRL 99.99 annually;
- 2TB: BRL 34.99 monthly or BRL 349.99 annually.
But, after all, how does it work?
This space can be used both in Google Photos and in Drive and Gmail. Google Photos ceased to be unlimited in June 2021, however, when it was launched in 2015, it featured unlimited and free backup of photos and videos. In addition, the only restriction was related to the size of the files, as they were compressed to 16 megapixels in photos and 1080p in videos.
However, Google gradually changed its mind, and first cut the unlimited storage of the Pixel line, which could be done in original quality. Then, in the middle of 2021, this feature was permanently closed. Photos and videos saved before the change remain in the cloud, however new uploads will be made within the storage limit of the Google account. This new partnership with T-Mobile shows that Google may be willing to return with unlimited backup, as long as they pay for it.
