Cats Helped Boost Japan's Economy
Research revealed that in 2021 a record was reached. About 489,000 more felines than the previous year were adopted by Japanese families. The total amount reached 8.94 million cats in the country.
After all, where does the increase in the economy because of cats come from?
The Japanese economic sector heated up due to the expenses that families started to have after adoption. The estimated monthly average was 8,460 yen with food and basic care for one animal. For the year, the total was 911.58 billion yen.
As reported by the Japan Pet Food Association, the pandemic period has caused people to be forced to stay at home and, therefore, the presence of pets brought peace of mind and improved communication in families.
Another scenario: abandoned cats
The Ministry of the Environment of the Japan explained that, in 2020, the number of cats placed for adoption reached 10,000. The justifications are that animals, even if small, are a lot of work and generate high extra costs.
To improve this situation, NPO TNR Felinos Japan, created by Elen Tanaka and Cássio Silva, in Iwata (Shizuoka province), rescues abandoned cats.
The couple said that there is a rental house to house only the 100 cats that were rescued and are awaiting adoption. Expenses are borne by Cássio, while his wife is responsible for taking care of all the cats.
