Ten major Brazilian cities do not have legislation for 5G

Conexis Brasil Digital carried out a survey in which it was found that, of the 26 Brazilian municipalities with more than 500,000 inhabitants, 10 do not have specific legislation for the installation of antennas and all the infrastructure that is necessary for the proper use of the 5G.

This survey did not consider Brazilian capitals, since they already have 5G since the second half of 2022. Thus, mobile operators are in a somewhat delicate moment in relation to the offer of the 5G signal. for other medium-sized cities in metropolitan or inland regions, which were included in the survey carried out by company.

According to the public notice issued by the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel), these cities that have more than 500,000 Residents must have a 5G signal properly installed by July 2025, with one antenna for every 10,000 people.

However, as mentioned, a municipal law is required to authorize the installation of

equipment and antennas required for 5G. So, find out which are the 10 cities with more than 500,000 inhabitants that still do not have such legislation:

  • Campinas, sp);
  • Guarulhos (SP);
  • Osasco (SP);
  • São Bernardo do Campo (SP);
  • Belford Roxo (RJ);
  • Nova Iguaçu (RJ);
  • Sierra (ES);
  • Vila Velha (ES);
  • Aparecida de Goiânia (GO);
  • Ananindeua (PA).

Still according to the survey carried out, 12 cities with more than 500 thousand inhabitants already have specific legislation on theme, but they have not yet adapted to the General Law of Antennas and other licensing practices that provide greater security legal.

In addition to these 12 municipalities, some capitals have not yet fully adapted to the legislation, so that 5G technology can be installed, but, due to this inadequacy, access in some neighborhoods and the expansion of the signal end up being committed.

Of the 26 cities with more than half a million residents, only four have legislation and municipal bureaucratic processes that fully support the arrival of 5G technology, namely:

  • Uberlandia (MG);
  • Joinville (SC);
  • São José dos Campos (SP);
  • Campos dos Goytacazes (RJ).
