How did the police manage to identify them?

Apparently it wasn't so easy to identify the children as they were both in disguise. They said they were listed on the National Center for Missing Children's database.

Brooke, age 11 and her brother Adrian Gilley, age 12.

The mother was then detained as a "custodial mother" under an active Clay County, Missouri, arrest warrant, police said in a Facebook post.

The children have already been added to the Florida Department of Children and Family Services and will subsequently be given to their biological family.

Since when were children 'missing'?

As reported by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, Adrian and Brooke were reported missing on March 15, 2022, in Liberty, Missouri.

The arrest warrant issued for Ms. Gilley was made effective July 13 of last year. According to reliable sources, no additional information was given explaining what would have triggered the alleged kidnapping of the little ones.
