O pixis one of the most used payment methods in the daily life of Brazilians, and it is possible to carry out transactions practically in any time, instantly, between any bank accounts, and, mainly, without charging any fee for the service.
Now, this type of payment should also be accepted for the payment of electricity bills, according to the determination of the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel), which was published in the Official Gazette of the Union last Tuesday, the 24th.

According to the decision, distributors will have a 120-day deadline to implement Pix as an alternative for paying these bills. It is also possible to verify, according to the text, that if the distributor intends to replace payments with the Pix code, it must first have the consumer's consent.
Although some of the distributors already offer this option, there is still no standard among the companies, and some did not even have any forecast for the implementation of the service.
According to director Ricardo Tili, who was the rapporteur for the process at Aneel, “Pix came to modernize the payment system in Brazil. Today it is the most used. The electrical system could not be left out of this. Some distributors have already anticipated, they did it optionally. So, it is up to Aneel to come and regulate and demand that all of them make this tool available to the consumer”.
Over the 120 days, consumers who choose to pay their bills through the Central Bank (BC) instant transfer system, will be able to do so through the QR Code that will be generated by the company itself, which can be done independently of the invoice barcode request original.
Among the benefits of this payment system applied to electricity bills, it is possible to verify the following:
- Better consumer experience;
- Fewer systematic problems than conventional payments (such as delay in recognizing and clearing the bank slip, for example);
- Decreased costs by companies.
