Research reveals what skills are most valued in a leader

The success of a team or organization depends entirely on good leadership. However, not only a position of authority characterizes leadership as effective. In addition, it is imperative that a leader has specific attributes that enhance the departments under his responsibility. In this sense, the employment platform Indeed conducted a survey that revealed what companies are most looking for when it comes to skills of a leader.

When a company determines and specifies its objectives, it needs a qualified team to bring results. Therefore, it is fundamental that this team obtain the best possible management, otherwise what is expected will not happen.

Therefore, it is extremely important that companies know how to choose a good leader, who will be responsible for guiding the team. However, it is not always possible to find leaders with characteristics that ensure team productivity and maintenance of the quality of the work environment.

So Indeed decided to reach out to managers responsible for building leadership teams and heard from them what skills are most in demand in a leader. The survey had 504 professionals and took place online.

Check out what managers most look for in a leader:

1. Incentive

About 70% of respondents indicated that a leader should offer unconditional support and encouragement to their employees, both personally and professionally.

2. Interest

One of the most requested skills was interest. Being genuinely interested in and concerned about the team was the target of 61% of managers.

3. Promotion of diversity in the work environment

For 53% of them, the simple fact of being concerned about bringing diversity and inclusion to the work environment is a skill that every leader should have.

4. Communication

Being interested in listening to other opinions, knowing how to dialogue and valuing the exchange of knowledge means having good communication, a skill cited by 49% of respondents.

5. Emotional and intellectual support

With the affirmation of 47% of the managers, favoring the team by transmitting knowledge and working as a coach is fundamental for every leader.

6. Balance

Understanding that there must be a balance between personal and professional life is essential for leaders, according to 38% of the 504 respondents.

7. tutoring

Assuming the role of advisor, imparting knowledge in a didactic way to the team is a very important skill, according to 35% of managers.

8. Assessment

According to 34% of the professionals, the leader must be frank when evaluating the team's performance and always bring objectivity to his evaluations.

9. in-depth knowledge

Having a level of specialized knowledge in your area is essential for those in leadership positions, according to 30% of them.

10. assertiveness

27% say it is essential for a leader to be extremely assertive when assigning work to their team.

11. Recognition

Of those interviewed, 24% emphasize the leader's need to recognize employee merits regularly.

12. Feedback

According to 16% of managers, a leader must constantly give feedback to your team.
