In the middle of the same month, the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services (MDIC) announced that nine automakers had joined the federal government program. They are: Renault, Volkswagen, Toyota, Hyundai, Nissan, Honda, GM, fiat and Peugeot.
According to a publication on the website G1, making cars cheaper is a request from President Lula (PT). The idea is to stimulate both industry and consumers.
Thus, the government would be able to move the economy of Brazil, which has been cold since 2020 as a result of the crisis generated by the covid-19 pandemic.
Reserve of up to R$ 1.5 billion for the program
As informed by the vice-president, Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), the federal government reserved R$ 1.5 billion in incentives for the program. When the amount runs out, the program will exit.
The fund was distributed as follows:
- R$ 500 million for car discounts;
- R$ 700 million for discounts on trucks;
- R$ 300 million for discounts on vans and buses.
As mentioned, discounts are between R$ 2,000 and R$ 8,000 – for vehicles that cost a maximum of R$ 120,000.

The National Association of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (Anfavea) estimated that around 110,000 vehicles will have a discount.
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva estimates that the program will last about a month. So, consumers who are interested in buying a new car should plan ahead so as not to lose the subsidy.
