HOLIDAY IPVA 2023: 18 vehicles will be exempt from tax next year

The Motor Vehicle Ownership Tax (IPVA) is charged annually to vehicle owners. Created in 1993 through Constitutional Amendment No. 3 of 1993, the tax aims to help the government in its mission to build and maintain the federal road network. Find out which 18 vehicles are exempt from IPVA in 2023

IPVA is a state tax, so each federative unit has its own rules for charging – or for exemption. However, the common rule is that citizens with disabilities or reduced mobility; with serious spinal problems; disc hernia; HIV; Parkinson's disease; Chronic tendinitis are not eligible for payment.

However, in addition, over the years, some cars also lose their obligation to pay the tax. In 2023, there is a new list that will be exempt from IPVA.

How do I know if my vehicle is exempt from payment?

Despite the exemption as in the cases mentioned above, most people who are exempt, however, were released due to the period in which the car was produced.

States like Acre, Rio Grande do Norte and Roraima do not charge IPVA for vehicles with more than 10 years of manufacture. Already Amazonas, Ceará and Bahia, for example, only suspend the payment of the tribute after 15 years of manufacture of the automobile. São Paulo, Paraná, Alagoas and Rio Grande do Sul only release drivers after 20 years of car manufacturing.
