In the cup some mistakes stay forever
The World Cup is every football player's dream, after all only the best players from each country play in the championship. However, it is possible that in the Cup some errors occur, even if the players are not the only ones vulnerable to historical errors. Thinking about it and taking advantage of the cup climate, here are some of them.
Ademir pepper save Leonidas da Silva
In 1938, the Brazilian team stood out for the first time with the talent of playmaker Leônidas da Silva, better known as “Black Diamond”. He was the competition's top scorer, however he was spared by the coach, Ademir Pimenta, in the semifinal, which Brazil ended up losing to Italy 2×1.
Moacir Barbosa in the 1950 final
In 1950, Brazil went to a final at the Maracanã stadium with the Uruguayan team, it was the favorite to be champion, however, it ended up losing 2×1, a defeat for which goalkeeper Moacir Barbosa, as he was out of position, took the blame.
Geoff Hurst and the 1966 final goal
In 1966, England played a final with Germany, which ended 4-2. However, the controversial factor of this final is the goal that changed the scenario for the English, which happened in the extra time of the game. As extra time began, Geoff Hurst took a shot, the ball exploded off the crossbar, dribbled over the goal line and left, and as the referees did not speak the same language, they were unable to communicate for the validation of the goal or no.
The goal was validated and Germany went to complain about players invading the field, but it was in vain, and so, Hurst kicked that ended up hitting the angle and so England consolidated champions of 66. Another curious fact is that the championship cup was stolen shortly before the cup started.
Maradona's goal
Perhaps the most vivid mistake in the memory of world football is Maradona's hand goal in the quarterfinals of the 1986 World Cup between Argentina and England.
