Settings for iOS
To change the automatic download option on your iOS device, first open WhatsApp, click on “Settings” and then select “Storage & Data”.
That way, you can choose when your app can automatically download photos, audio, videos, and documents. It is possible to select which type of files and under what conditions they can be downloaded (“Never”, “Wi-Fi” or “Wi-Fi and cellular data”).
Settings for Android
To change your Android settings, open the application and press “More options”. Then click on “Settings”, then on “Storage and data”, and finally on the option “Automatic media download”.
