This cartoon appeared in Harper's Weekly in November 1892 and was based on an illustration by Fliegende Blätter in a German magazine in October 1892.
The American psychologist Joseph Jastrow was the one who used the optical illusion, showing that perception is not just about what is seen, but has to do with mental activity.
According to his logic, the participant who perceives the two images and manages to switch between them without difficulty has evidence of creative abilities. Also, this skill shows how fast your brain works.
The fact that the brain has this ability to switch between images is very much relative to how creative you are. During the test, people who were able to view the images were able to come up with about five distinct and unusual uses for an everyday item.
However, those who had trouble switching between images could only think of two unusual uses for the same item.
Has the test ever been applied to children?
The test has also been done with children and it has been noticed that they, strangely, when tested at different times of the year, have different results. For example, around Easter, they are more likely to see a picture of a rabbit. If the test is performed at another time, they can see a duck. Amazing, huh?
This is a test that is considered simple, and you can take it to prove or confirm how creative and innovative you are.
