On dating apps, the preference is for a stable personality

In general, couples often exhibit similarities in personality traits such as conscientiousness and openness.

These findings highlight the importance of compatibility in certain personality traits as a factor in mate choice, although there are variations depending on the study performed.

This highlights the complexity and diversity of personal preferences in the partner selection process.

Online dating platforms provide an opportunity to infer candidates' personality traits by reading their profile pages.

However, previous studies in this area faced some limitations, such as the analysis of a number reduced number of profiles and the use of personality assessment instruments with internal consistency reduced.

To overcome previous limitations, researchers Jessica De La Mare and Anthony Lee performed a study in which participants rated a larger number of dating profiles and used the comprehensive Big Five Inventory (BFI-44) to measure participants' personality traits.

The study sample consisted of 383 participants, who were asked to rate 100 different online dating profiles. These profiles included a photo of the person and a brief biography. Participants were asked if they would be interested in matching with the featured person.

Study participants were instructed to rate whether each personal bio had high or low levels of the five personality traits. This assessment allowed us to examine how the participants perceived and interpreted the personality traits of potential partners based on the information provided in their profiles.

Study results indicated that the participants' own personality traits did not have a significant impact on the number of matches they made. However, when it came to perceived personality in the profiles' personal descriptions, significant effects were observed.

Participants demonstrated a tendency to prefer potential matches that were perceived as pleasant and emotionally stable. These personality traits appear to have a positive influence on participants' preferences when choosing potential partners.

In addition to the preference for profiles perceived as pleasant and emotionally stable, participants showed a preference for profiles that were perceived as more introverted.

Mare and Lee point out that the results of their study support the idea that people have preferences selective in the context of online dating, especially regarding the personality traits of agreeableness and frankness.

These findings suggest that, when creating their profiles and when evaluating the profiles of other users, people tend to value and seek out specific personality traits. The preference for friendly and sincere individuals may reflect the search for healthy and genuine relationships.
