With all the charm, after a great circuit of tests, the Brazilian pet managed to win the title that all dogs in the world – and their owners – aspire to!
On December 11, at Expo Center Norte, the World Dog Show awards ceremony took place in the city of São Paulo. This was the third edition of the championship that took place in Brazil. In 1972 and 2004, the event was held in Rio de Janeiro.
This is the biggest competition involving pets from all over the world, so a Brazilian winning the first place is very significant. Around 4,000 dogs from different parts of the world competed for the award: Canada, Russia, Korea, Japan, Europe, Taiwan and the United States.
However, who won first place in the competition and took home the award was a Brazilian. The Shih-Tzu, named Joy, has won the highest place among all dogs.
The 'Best In Show' competition that consecrated the Shih-Tzu
This year, there were more than 100 judges to decide which would be the winner of the award. The competition was disputed between the best in the world of each breed and the best of all classes (puppy, young and adult).
The Brazilian Shih-Tzu was crowned winner after a sequence of races disputed on the last day of the event. In second place was a Jack Russell Terrier and, in third place, an American Akita. In fourth place was an English Cocker Spaniel and in fifth place, a Fila Brasileiro.
Next competition scheduled for 2023
The next event of the World Dog Show takes place between the 24th and 27th of August next year, in the city of Geneva, in Switzerland. Now, it remains to wait for the next edition to find out what will be the placements of the Brazilian pet team!
