The cases of poisoning, which occurred in May, were related to the misuse of products based on quaternary ammonium, biguanide and 1% hypochlorite.
The intoxicated professionals showed symptoms such as irritation on the skin and eyes, burning nose, headache, in addition to skin redness and itchy lesions throughout the body.
Anvisa classified the case of poisoning as serious
One of the workers exposed to inadvertent mixing of products during bed disinfection required specialized medical care, being classified as a serious adverse event by Anvisa.
According to a 2020 Anvisa resolution, sanitizing products are defined as substances or preparations intended for the cleaning, disinfection, disinfestation, sanitization, deodorization and odorization of objects, fabrics, inanimate surfaces, environments, as well as disinfection of water for human consumption, horticultural products and swimming pools.
Signs and symptoms reveal the causes
These products are essential for controlling infections in hospital environments and are subject to regulation by Anvisa.
The investigation carried out by the agency revealed that the signs and symptoms presented by the professionals were probably the result of the mixing and interaction of the three substances, which evaporated in the rooms surgical.
manufacturers instructions
Anvisa stressed the importance of strictly following the manufacturers' instructions regarding the conditions of use of sanitizers.
In addition, it is essential to avoid inappropriate mixing and/or interaction of different chemical products during cleaning and disinfection of hospital environments.
Ensuring the safety of healthcare workers and patients is a priority. It is therefore crucial to be aware of the risks associated with improperly handling cleaning products.
By following the instructions provided by manufacturers and adopting safe practices, we can prevent poisoning incidents while keeping environments free of contamination.
