O Discord, a popular communication app amongyoung people, has been the subject of investigations due to the presence of channels that promote content related to Nazism, racism, pedophilia and sexual exploitation.
While it is widely used by gamers to communicate while playing online games, the app has been exploited by criminals to spread violent content.

Recently, a criminal action was discovered through teenagers who coerced young girls to mutilate themselves, in addition to being subjected to “virtual rape”.
Similar to WhatsApp, Discord offers voice, text and video chat capabilities, allowing users to join different chat rooms with friends or even strangers. It was at gatherings like these that teenagers got together to act criminally.
The Public Ministry of the State of São Paulo (MPSP) announced the availability of an email address for victims to register complaints against unlawful acts of intolerance and misogyny on the platform mentioned.
Complaints will be received and heard by the body through the address [email protected]targeting the culprits of crimes that happen virtually.
Discord becomes target of Brazilian Justice
The attorney general of Justice Mario Sarrubbo, in the resolution in which he established the task force, expresses concern with the fact that children and female adolescents are subject to abusive sexual practices on application platforms, social networks and electronic games online.
It was found that, on these platforms, illicit content is exposed to users through chat.
Maria Fernanda Balsalobre Pinto, member of the Special Group to Combat Racial Crimes and Intolerance (Gecradi), highlighted the importance of recognizing that acts committed on the Discord platform are not just teen challenges, but are about one crime.
She emphasized that most crimes are spearheaded by adults who take advantage of the platform's vulnerability towards youth to spread atrocities.
So far, the MPSP has not released further details on the progress of possible investigations into complaints made through the new channel.
