How to plant cassava in a pot
Pot size is very important for the plant to grow and develop properly. It should be a large vase and need at least 40 cm in diameter and 50 cm in height.
Climate conditions
This plant does not do very well in temperatures below 18°C. The humid and warm climate is what favors its development. Light conditions are also important. Leave the vase in a place well lit by the sun!
Ground
Cassava requires fertile soil with a good amount of organic matter. The ideal pH is between 5 and 6. Clay soils that have suffered compaction are not good for planting.
Irrigation
The soil needs to be moist all the time, but not excessively. Especially in the first five months the need for water is greater, then the plant becomes more developed and resistant to drought.
Planting
For planting, pieces of adult and healthy cassava stems (manivas) with 15 to 25 cm in length and around 2.5 cm in diameter should be used. Place the cuttings in holes 5 to 10 cm deep, in a horizontal position.
Harvest
The time between planting and harvest lasts between 12 and 18 months. Avoid pruning the plant during this period.
How to keep cassava pest free
The emergence of pests such as bedbugs, ants and mites can occur, so always observe your plant, soil and moisture conditions. In the case of an already installed infestation, there are natural and industrialized remedies and insecticides capable of solving the problem.
