In early 2023, new traffic regulations came into effect in Brazil, which should serve as a warning to drivers to pay even greater attention when driving.
The new set of norms of the Brazilian Traffic Code (CTB) encompasses several changes, ranging from the duration of validity of the National Driver's License (CNH) to the new requirements in relation to low beams on state and federal roads.

One of the changes that requires more caution is precisely the new regulation for the use of low beams.
In summary, from now on, if a vehicle has the daytime running light (DRL) installed, it will not be mandatory to keep the low beam on. However, if the car does not have the DRL system, it will be necessary to turn on the low beam on single lane highways during the day.
Despite having been released for a long time, the new rule that provides for the use of headlights on during the day is not complied with by many drivers.
This faulty act could end up generating a fine of BRL 130.16 and the loss of four points in the driver's license. The penalties refer to an average infraction.
Other traffic rules that require increased attention in 2023
One of the most “nebulous” and controversial changes in the new regulations is the permission to turn right at a red light.
This change is considered confusing, as it is only valid when there is a sign explicitly signaling this maneuver. Furthermore, the license plate must be visible to all drivers.
Another decision that has generated controversy is a new resolution by the National Traffic Council (Contran) which determined a reduction in the minimum level of light that can pass through the insulfilm film to 70%.
This rule applies to the most important areas of glass, such as the windshield, which is responsible for the driver's vision.
With regard to the rear windows, the minimum permitted amount of light that can pass through the insulfilm film is 28%, provided that no bubbles form.
As for CNH renewal, the changes are now related to the driver's age. For drivers up to 49 years old, the driver's license is valid for a period of 10 years.
In the case of drivers aged between 50 and 69 years, renewal must be carried out every five years. And for drivers over 70 years old, renewal must occur every three years.
In addition, the period of time for renewal after the expiration date has returned to 30 days, after an exceptional extension granted in 2020 because of the pandemic.
