Still in his post, Bill Gates said: “My goal has always been to dowithwhatto thepeopleworry about a problem that affects 3.6 billion people: lack of sanitation.

Thanks to scientists and engineers from all over Oworld, we are approaching in new solutions that will goto prevent diseases and illnesses”.

This post by Gates on Linkedin also has a link to a blog post from July 2021, where subjects on innovations in sanitation projects are addressed.

The Gates Foundation, in 2011, started the ‘ReinventtheToilet Challenge', where researchers were asked "if they could develop safe sanitation solutions that work without relying on sewage systems or running water".

At that time, more than 10 years ago, the scientists and engineers involved came up with many ideas on how to design bathrooms that achieve process human waste safely, using little or no water or electricity, as stated in the Gates.

Among these creations, Bill Gates also highlighted in his post that scientists have created a toilet that transforms waste into important resources such as fertilizers, drinking water and electricity.

“Other researchers invented a new system to process faecal sludge from latrines, septic tanks and sewers that transforms wastehumansinentire communities in drinking water and electricity.These machines, called Omniprocessors, can be used to support Theone fecal sludge treatment for plants or supplement onestation of treatment of residual waters.AND theyrequirea fraction of energy, space and cost that onetraditional season of treatment of sewer and residual waters demands”, said.

Approximately 3.6 billion people do not have a toilet or use an unsafe sanitation facility. For this and other reasons, the billionaire believes that solving this problem is urgent.

“For sure, there are still challenges ahead for to bring this innovation… But I'm optimistic about what could be accomplished for the next 10 years and beyond,” Gates wrote in 2021.
