Excess production of cholesterol and its consequences:

The fatty compound, in addition to being produced naturally by our body, can also be absorbed through food. It is carried in the blood by particles called lipoproteins.

If cholesterol is carried by low-density lipoproteins (LDL), it is characterized as “bad” cholesterol, as this type easily accumulates in arterial walls. Cholesterol carried by high-density lipoproteins (HDL) is characterized as "good" cholesterol. Therefore, excess cholesterol in the blood, especially if it is LDL, as it opens up to some diseases that can be fatal.

Now check out some effects of excess of this bad lipid in the blood:

  • atherosclerosis

This condition is characterized by the accumulation of cholesterol or general fats in the walls of the arteries, which causes an obstruction of blood flow.

  • Coronary artery disease

In this case, the accumulation of this material in the coronary arteries reduces blood flow to the heart muscle, which can progress to a heart attack or heart failure.

  • carotid artery disease

Plaque buildup in the carotid arteries decreases blood flow to the brain, thus increasing the risk of a stroke.

  • peripheral arterial disease

In this case in question, a cluster of plaques in the peripheral arteries collaborates to interrupt the blood flow to the extremities of the body.

  • aortic aneurysms

It is characterized by a buildup of plaque on the wall of the aorta artery. This can cause internal bleeding.

  • kidney damage

In this case, plaque builds up in the renal arteries, which decreases blood flow to the kidneys. This can certainly progress to kidney failure.

  • High pressure

Excess of this component can hinder the passage of blood in the arteries, which leads to high blood pressure. This condition can damage their walls and progress to more serious conditions.
