The fatty compound, in addition to being produced naturally by our body, can also be absorbed through food. It is carried in the blood by particles called lipoproteins.
If cholesterol is carried by low-density lipoproteins (LDL), it is characterized as “bad” cholesterol, as this type easily accumulates in arterial walls. Cholesterol carried by high-density lipoproteins (HDL) is characterized as "good" cholesterol.
