Niantic, the developer of Pokémon GO, has announced that Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will officially end in January 2022.

the mobile game Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is officially shutting down. The news comes from developer Niantic. The company became known as the creator of Pokémon GO.

Wizards Unite failed to make the same impact as Pokémon GO when it launched in 2019. The download numbers at launch were far from a bust for Niantic. Despite this, the release never achieved the same popularity as GO.

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is a mobile app that transforms the real world into a magical one through AR technology. The game gives everyday locations and areas a touch of magic. Points of interest become strongholds. Greenhouses and other buildings seen throughout the Harry Potter series are in the game.

Users can also encounter mythical creatures and familiar faces from the Wizarding World. Players can unlock spells, brew potions, and visit famous locations from the franchise. Locations include Dumbledore's Office and Hagrid's Hut.

The Harry Potter game had all the ingredients for success. Apparently, the game failed to capture audiences as well as Pokemon GO.

Announcement

On the official Harry Potter: Wizards Unite website, Niantic confirmed that the game will shut down on January 31, 2022. The app will be removed from the App Store, Google Play and Galaxy Store on December 6, 2021.

Niantic explained that the servers will be completely shut down. This means that those who have the app installed will no longer be able to play.
