Self-driving trucks can be cleared in California

California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) regulators last week proposed Friday (12) measures to allow vehicle manufacturers to test small autonomous trucks on roads public.

A company belonging to Google known as Waymo, and also Uber, which have developed the same type of technology, are already testing in other US states.

The department's measure provides that regulated companies can test on the streets autonomous delivery vehicles that weigh less than 4,500 kg.

It is not yet clear whether delivery vehicles should have a safety driver, which is already required in self-driving cars tested in the region.

On May 30, the department will hold a public hearing to gather information regarding the proposed regulations.

Autonomous vehicles are already allowed in California

62 companies have valid licenses to test autonomous vehicles, with a requirement for a safe driver, on public roads in California. The state is one of the ones that most encourages the development of tests with this type of technology in the United States.
