Spotted fever causes shock in São Paulo

A recent outbreak of Rocky Mountain spotted fever drew attention in Brazil, with cases concentrated in different states. According to the records, four cases were identified in Minas Gerais, eight in Espírito Santo, six in Rio de Janeiro and twelve in São Paulo.

These alarming numbers highlight the spread of the disease in these regions, but the most recent case may have been an isolated fatality.

Unfortunately, eight Rocky Mountain spotted fever-related deaths were recorded this year, all of which occurred in the State of São Paulo. These tragic losses have a common link: all the victims were at an event held at Fazenda Santa Margarida, located in the district of Joaquim Egídio, in Campinas.

It is important to note that there are few records of the disease in the metropolitan region of São Paulo, as reported by the State's Center for Epidemiological Surveillance (CVE).
