Rio Art Museum
This year, MAR began to be managed by the Organization of United States Ibero-Americans (OEI) in partnership with the city of Rio. For the organization, as commented by Raphael Callou, chief director of the OEI representation in Brazil, this is the importance of the Rio museum:
“It represents an instrument for strengthening access to culture, closely related to the territory, in addition to contributing to for training in the arts, having in Rio de Janeiro, through its history and its expressions, the raw material for our work."
MAR is located at Praça Mauá, number 5, in the city of Rio de Janeiro.
The place is open from Thursday to Sunday from 11 am to 5 pm.
Arts exhibited at MAR
The exhibitions that are available were inaugurated later this month, on the 10th. The museum also has a hill and a lookout so that visitors can discover the place.
The artist from Pará, Emmanuel Nassar, also exhibits his richest work at MAR during the free period. The public will find art that speaks to the popular and erudite spheres, then they will be able to interact with a life-size plane that is part of the exhibition. In addition to this, four other attractions can be seen.
“Having Stories and Territories”, another exhibition, is by the University of Quebradas, which addresses the experience of students during the humanities course and the Black Art course. The production of the work is entirely authored by the students and can be seen both in the MAR library and on the museum's pilotis.
The main exhibition is “A color defect”, which has been there since September of this year. The work is a review of the history of the period of struggles in the slave society of the 19th century, addressing contexts and cultural forms of the time. The exhibition is based on the book by Ana Maria Gonçalves.
