The video immediately spread on social media and many people began to comment on what happened, which apparently shows bizarre and distressing images. In addition to cars, buildings and houses are also affected by the rain of worms.
Although the situation happened in several parts of Beijing, there is no official communication from the local government to explain the phenomenon.
However, all people were warned to leave the house with an umbrella, to avoid being hit by the animals.
Understand what could have caused the rain of worms
The unusual situation made people seek information about the origin of the phenomenon, mainly to find out if it is something serious with the potential to happen in other parts of the world.
The first explanation is the so-called Full Moon of the Worms, which takes place in the northern hemisphere of planet Earth and marks the arrival of spring. As the end of winter approaches, the frozen surfaces cause these worms to appear in the city.
Another alternative raised is that, in fact, they are not earthworms, but poplar flowers, similar to earthworms and caterpillars, very present in Beijing.
On TikTok, some people comment that the rain of worms only hit the simplest cars and left out a Mercedes. Others say that there are no worms in the streets, only in cars.
