The list is made following some classification criteria. They use 13 indicators that measure the performance of institutions in four areas: Research, teaching, international recognition and transfer of information and knowledge. In Brazil, the Southeast is at the top of the list and leads the top 3. First, we see the University of São Paulo (USP), then the State University of Campinas (Unicamp) and then the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG).
This year, the ranking has undergone some major changes, given that two institutions are no longer participating in the top 10 ranking. Thus, the University of Brasília (UNB) and the São Paulo State University (Unesp) now occupy the 11th and 12th positions, respectively, in the list.
