How about planting passion fruit in your home? If you live in an apartment and think it's not possible, learn now how to do it and get your seedling now.
How to plant passion fruit in an apartment
There are three different ways to plant passion fruit: from cuttings, seeds and seedlings. Regarding the environment, planting should be done in a place with exposure to sunlight. So before planting already plan where the plant will stay. Here's how to plant:
with seeds: remove the seeds of a ripe passion fruit; then wash them and put them to dry for about 5 days.
Choose a vase with a capacity of 50 liters (passion fruit grows a lot), fill it with fertile soil and, soon after, make some furrows to spread the seeds, to cover use a little bit of substrate.
Spray water, but without soaking.
with branches: Choose a branch with at least 3 buds and cut it just below the bud furthest from the tip. Plant this branch in the pot and put a support (it can be a wooden stake) to help the growth. Around 2 weeks the roots usually appear.
with seedlings: the planting method is the same, but special care is that each seedling is planted in a different vase, with the objective of avoiding competition for water and nutrients, since this harms the development of plants.
Passion fruit care
The soil must be rich in organic matter and with good drainage, it must not be too wet. The ideal pH is between 6.5 and 7.5.
Water your passion fruit tree frequently, with more water on warmer days. Irrigation is especially important when the plant is close to flowering and bearing fruit.
Put organic fertilizer on your plant when you realize that the soil is not as nourished, so the fertilizer will improve humidity and restore plant nutrients, in addition to scaring away weeds.
After 6 to 9 months of planting the harvest can be carried out, but do not leave the ripe passion fruit without being consumed for a long time, because they wither!
