In collaboration with cyclists and cycling advocates, Uber has designed custom clothing to ensure greater safety on the streets. This measure aims to protect and increase the visibility of couriers, promoting a safer environment for everyone.

The new changes are coming after five couriers died in 2020 and multiple reports of work-related injuries.

In parallel, Uber is implementing a series of changes to improve passenger safety.

Uber Eats will equip New Zealand and Australian couriers

As part of these safety measures, Uber consulted with 40 couriers over the course of six months to get answers about the design of the protective gear.

Now, as a result of this consultation process, the company will release the latest safety equipment designs, which meet the standards set by the SGS Australia.

According to the general manager of Uber Eats Australia, Bec Nyst, the company consulted extensively with 40 couriers over six months to develop the protective gear kits. Using the SGS Australia, Uber has ensured that these products meet strict safety standards.

During the month of July, Uber will gradually make rider kits available that include essential items for safety such as vest, rain cover, food delivery bag, phone holder, bike light and panels reflective.

These measures aim to ensure that pilots are protected and focused on safety during their deliveries, promoting a safer experience for all platform users. Uber is committed to constantly improving safety measures in its operations.
