What are the conditions for renegotiating the FIES
The Ministry of Education defined that people who signed the contract with the program until the second half of 2017 can request the renegotiation of the FIES. With this, it is possible to contemplate more than 500 thousand students across the country who signed the financing agreement by that date.
Thus, people who meet this requirement will be able to request renegotiation by both Caixa Econômica Federal and Banco do Brasil. This request can even be made through the applications of the respective banks, but also in person at the branches. From then on, it will be possible to discuss payment methods.
In most cases, the students choose to pay these debts in installments, but it is also possible to settle the entire debt in cash. In any case, the government manages to offer students some very good payment conditions. In addition, there is the possibility of a discount both for those who choose to pay in cash or in installments.
Deadline for renegotiation and PL
In the official calendar of the Ministry of Education, the deadline for this renegotiation ended on December 31, 2022. However, a bill is already being discussed in the National Congress that seeks to extend the deadline so that more people can renegotiate. In this case, this date would be extended until December 31, 2023.
This is Bill n. 3016/2022 which seeks to amend Law n. 14,375 / 2022, which is precisely the law that establishes the criteria for renegotiation. If there is approval, there is an extension of the deadline, but the criteria for the agreement to be made remain. Therefore, it will also be necessary to have a contract signed by the second half of 2017.
