The governor of Minas Gerais, Romeu Zema (NOVO), announced this Thursday (13) that he will continue the civic-military schools in some institutions of the state network, following the example of other states such as Goiás and São Paul.
With the measure, the schools that were already part of the National Program of Civic-Military Schools (PECIM) will continue to apply management with the help of the Fire Department.

PECIM is an initiative implemented during the Bolsonaro government, which is in operation in nine schools from the state of Minas Gerais since 2020.
The decree for the continuity of the program was issued after the national communiqué of the Ministry of Education announce the gradual closure of civic-military schools across the country by the end of the 2023 school year.
According to the Minas Gerais education portal, these schools serve around 6,000 students. According to SEE-MG, the civic-military model has shown positive results: the approval rate in these schools has increased since the program was implemented, reaching above 80%.
Partnership with the Fire Department
Another important point of the statement is that, as of 2024, the State Department of Education and the Military Fire Department of Minas Gerais (CBMMG) will carry out shared management in the teaching units that already work with the PECIM teaching system.
They hope that the partnership will be able to establish complementary activities similar to those of PECIM and that involve the school's faculty and CBMMG monitors.
Among the schools, the Governador Bias Fortes State School, located in Santos Dumont, is still going through the implementation process. However, it should also continue with the educational model.
It is worth mentioning that, until the end of 2023, PECIM will still be a program managed by the MEC. The letter from the Federal Government determined that the end of the initiative will be done gradually.
Thus, “the normality of educational activities for the remainder of this 2023 school year is guaranteed. In the next semester, therefore, the activities in the schools in the State that are part of Pecim should be maintained without compromising the daily life of the schools”, according to a statement from the MEC.
