The National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) regularized, this Wednesday, 8, the payment of graduate scholarships. The sending of values to beneficiaries was delayed, but, according to Ricardo Galvão, chairman of the council, this was caused by bureaucratic procedures and not by lack of funds. In a note published by the Council on Twitter, the entity informed that, as a rule and traditionally, payment of CNPq grants is made on the fifth working day of each month. However, due to the delay in the bureaucratic procedures for the transition of documentation to the new management of the CNPq, the bank orders were still in progress, and because of that, the payment had to be postponed.
As the payment did not occur on the correct day, several scholarship holders used social networks to complain about the delay. Others also cited the lack of readjustment of scholarships, in which the last increase was carried out 10 years ago. However, the government claims that the readjustment is on the new management's list of priorities.
With the values of the scholarships frozen since 2013, scholarship holders are planning, this week, a mobilization in Brasília with the aim of putting pressure on the government. According to the National Association of Graduate Students (ANPG), the value of scholarships had a loss of 75% in purchasing power compared to the value of 2013.
Currently, research grants pay R$ 1,500 per month to students for a master's degree and R$ 2,200 per month for doctoral students.
