On September 4th, professionals from the nursing were surprised by the suspension of the wage floor for the category. The decision came from Minister Luis Roberto Barroso, of the STF (Federal Supreme Court), at the request of the National Confederation of Health, Hospitals and Service Establishments (CNsaúde). He granted a precautionary measure to suspend Law nº 14.434/2022 and gave 60 days for municipalities, states and institutions inform about the impacts that the payment of this floor will cause in the economy of the country.

The floor is BRL 4,750.00 for nurses, 70% of that salary for nursing technicians, and 50% for assistants and midwives. This floor would be paid for the first time on September 5th.
According to Barroso's decision, the case's rapporteur, there is a chance to reassess the opinion after the bodies inform how they will pay this floor.
Also on Sunday, the rapporteur who made the proposal that originated the law, Carmen Zanotto, regretted the minister's decision and emphasized: "With this suspension, we need to reinforce the fight in search of funding sources, because Brazilian nursing deserves and will have its minimum salary national".
Artur Lira, president of the Chamber of Deputies, also used his social networks to inform that he will continue in the fight to maintain the nursing salary floor that has already been approved by Congress.
With the quick and incisive repercussion on the social networks of senators, the president of the Federal Senate and the National Congress, Rodrigo Pacheco, informed that he will deal immediately with Barroso, on behalf of the parliament, about the solutions for the implementation of the floor before the STF.
Pacheco also reported that the national salary floor for nurses is a fair measure for a group of professionals who became famous in the pandemic, and who have their salaries underestimated in Brazil. In addition, he claimed that the desire of the three powers of the Republic is to enforce federal law and, at the same time, maintain the financial balance of the health system.
Until the 16th of September, the plenary of the STF will analyze the injunction issued by Minister Luis Roberto Barroso. The trial will be virtual and will not have a public debate. In this way, the ministers will cast their votes in an electronic system that will remain open throughout this week.
