Education and pandemic

Remote classes were part of the daily lives of young students, and like the others, they needed to adapt to this new reality. Despite being the most logical alternative at the time, this new education system was not able to supply everything that should be done.

With that, the closing of schools resulted in only 65% of learning for children. However, those in vulnerable situations only learned 48%. These numbers are the result of a survey carried out by Revista Ensaio: Evaluation and Public Policies in Education.

Impacts caused

We know that everything possible was done to ensure that our lives did not come to a complete standstill, but the fact that the pandemic had an impact cannot be denied. Therefore, we can mention education factors that were most affected, such as literacy.

The results obtained in the survey carried out showed that children who attended the second year of kindergarten (or preschool) in 2020 learned only 66% in Portuguese and languages and 64% in mathematics compared to the learning of the year previous.

As this moment is what precedes literacy, it cannot be denied that these percentages continued to the following year, compromising the development of the little ones.

Furthermore, we cannot forget the most vulnerable children. Unfortunately, we also had cases of children who stopped studying, as some public schools were unable to offer remote teaching, further aggravating their situation.
