Caffeine acts as a potent central nervous system stimulant. This effect occurs by blocking adenosine receptors, a neurotransmitter that normally causes feelings of drowsiness. The consequence of this is an increase in alertness and a decrease in the feeling of tiredness.
2. Increased heart rate
Another important aspect of caffeine is its ability to stimulate the cardiovascular system, resulting in an increase in heart rate. This effect stems from the release of adrenaline, a hormone that prepares the body for action.
3. Dilation of blood vessels
Additionally, caffeine can promote the dilation of blood vessels in specific areas of the body, such as the brain, muscles and heart. This dilation can increase blood flow to these areas, enhancing organic activity.
4. Increased blood pressure
Due to its stimulating action on the cardiovascular system, blood pressure may temporarily increase after excessive coffee consumption.
5. Increased urine production
Caffeine has diuretic action, i.e. it is able to increase urine production. This happens because caffeine inhibits sodium reabsorption in the kidneys, resulting in greater elimination of water.
6. gastrointestinal irritation
In some people, excessive coffee consumption can lead to gastrointestinal irritation, causing symptoms such as heartburn, acid reflux, diarrhea or increased stomach acid production.
7. Dehydration
Although coffee is not highly dehydrating, caffeine can have a mild diuretic effect, as mentioned earlier. If you consume large amounts of coffee without adequately replacing fluids, a slight dehydrating effect may occur.
Attention! In order not to exceed the moderate consumption of caffeine, it is advisable to limit intake to 400 milligrams daily – the equivalent of about 4 cups of coffee.
